Rimjhim gire saawan...

Rain mesmerizes. Rain cleanses. The smell of wet earth..the sweetness..the intoxication..the headiness..
As I sit waiting for the season's first showers (god knows we need them!), which, looking at the outside, might happen anytime (but then, it's been quite a while the outside's looking like this :|), apart from exasperation at the stickiness that pre-rain heat inspires, something that strikes me out of the blue, is...love (!?), You know, rain, love, romance...bollywood?

Bollywood goes to no limits to relate rain to 'love in the air'; may it be a drizzle, or a heavy thunderstorm complete with fluttering sarees and blown-off rooftops, and frightened girls clinging to ever-present guys in cozy nooks and corners that spring out of nowhere, just in time.

With all due respects to the romance, if we get a bit practical (forgive me, oh ye head-over-heels in love people!), I'd say, rain incites feelings because it creates a diversion. You feel more in league with your guy because he's alike you, in that instant. No pretences. All of them washed away along with your make up. It soaks you to the skin and gets underneath you, it rids you of your inhibitions, your professionalism, your brain, your artificiality. And you can't love till you are artificial. But suddenly, you realize, you don't have to act like you're not stupid! You can jump and prance around like you're a schoolgirl, only to look around and find that your partner's doing the same thing! It dilutes your mask, for whatever reason; like nature, always scoring over deceit! And it's not just about lovers, it's even with friends and family! (it's another thing that your family isn't so liberal about karaokeing in the rain...) It's affection, mistaken for love (just like you botch up vice-versa a lot of times!)..it's the magic that water can do, just like downing an ice-cold glassful of that chemical they call H2O makes you feel relieved, refreshed, and content!

PS: It's raining!!!
I don't know if love's in the air, but that alluring smell definitely is! They should bottle it and sell it as perfume! :)
Heavens! Ta da!

  1. That's quite short and sweet.
But it should be "You can't love 'while' you are artificial" and not "till".
P.S. We argue about it anytime you're free. B-)
